The Process

GETTING STARTED

Hi, it's Nicola here.  If you've never commissioned a piece of custom jewelry, and I wager most of us haven't, I will tell you how David and I work.

Whenever you're ready, we can begin by having a quiet conversation about your vision for a memorial ring. Please drop me a note at nicola@memorialrings.ca

I like email. It feels almost old fashioned in this day and age, and it allows you and I to have a thoughtful, unhurried conversation.  I'd love to know a bit about you and the person or pet you're remembering, and I'll share some initial information with you about how the ashes are collected and shipped, information about designing your ring, wood choices, price range and David's schedule.

We like to share photos of what's going on around the homestead, the changing seasons, the birds and the wildlife. Email works best for my image heavy emails. :) And we always love to see photos from your life as well.

We are here to help and I will communicate with you for as long as you like, to ensure you are happy with your choices and comfortable with the process.

DESIGNING YOUR RING

You are welcome to choose from hundreds of beautiful woods David has on hand. Some of our wood is from blow down and bug killed trees on our own property in the Cariboo Chilcotin. David has branch woods from back yards all over the world. We have pieces of fence posts from a rural village in Africa, Australian Alpine Ash from Corinbank, Oak wood from trees that started their lives as acorns on the battlefield of Vimy Ridge. We have a lovely selection of fruit woods from the orchards of friends and family in the Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys in British Columbia. Similkameen Juniper is David's signature wood.

Touch Wood Rings, Juniper heartwood, Bethlehem Olive Wood Liner, inlay of rose quartz and dried rose petals

David is happy to work with wood you send to us, perhaps from a tree in the family yard and any inlay material you might like to combine with the ashes. You could include a bit of crushed stone or shell, dried flower petals, a lock of hair or fur. We will guide you through the options.

Once we have all the details in place such as wood choices, sizes, and your inlay material safely delivered; David likes to have 3 weeks to a month with your commission. I book his work on a month-by-month basis, shipping at month end or in the first days of the following month.

While David works with you on your memorial ring or pin, we keep the ashes of your loved one in a special keepsake box overlooking the meadow as a symbolic way to share the scenery, the calls of the cranes, the sunrises and the moonlight. We stay in touch through email with work in progress updates, and photographs of what's happening as your ring is 'being born'.

Please have a look around and drop me an email, whenever you're ready.

With warmest regards, Nicola
